Sketchbook Work - Past, Present & Future Makers Celebrate 30 Years at Manchester Craft & Design Centre.

I managed to steal some time and start working from the photographs I took of Manchester Craft & Design Centre.  Time constraints at this juncture will not allow me to experiment with materials as much as I would like for my finished piece for Past, Present and Future Makers Celebrate 30 Years at Manchester Craft & Design Centre (in 2 weeks), however I will be continuing this work for Collecting History (for which there is a Blog) and for Crafting History immediately afterwards. These related projects around the Craft Centre's 30th Anniversary will also be the basis for a new body of work.  I will tag all posts relating to this as 30 Years at MCDC.

N.B. Anyone who has a story about Manchester Craft & Design Centre (memories of visiting there, commissioning a piece of work, etc.), can share your story HERE.  These stories will be the starting point for the next exhibition, Crafting History later in the year at the Craft Centre, when the 30th Anniversary celebrations will be in full swing.

Past, Present & Future Makers Celebrate 30 Years at Manchester Craft & Design Centre.

I've made a start on gathering research for "Past, present and future makers celebrate 30 years at Manchester Craft & Design Centre" (MCDC).

As this show is running alongside the Craft Centre's "Collecting History" exhibition celebrating the launch of MCDC's 30th Anniversary, I have therefore chosen to make a piece which is directly inspired by the architectural details of the building itself, for these are what caught my eye the first time I visited this former fish market hidden away in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

All change at Manchester Craft & Design Centre

Manchester Craft & Design Centre

Much has happened these past few months, all starting with my husband being taken into hospital before Christmas. Luckily he is fine and back at work, but the last 4 months have flown by in a bit of a blur.

The Crafts Council UK Hothouse programme drew to a close, although I am now privileged to be working with my Hothouse Mentor Yvonne Kulawgowski and Hothouse Buddy Marianne Anderson. This week I moved out of Studio 21, Designers Eclectic and my work will now have a new home next door in Studio 22, Manchester Craft & Design Centre. I also have 2 exhibitions and the Contemporary Craft Fair, Devon to create work for, all of which are happening in June 2012!

First up is a ring to celebrate Manchester Craft & Design Centre's 30th Anniversary - "Past, Present & Future Makers Celebrate 30 Years at Manchester Craft & Design Centre". This will run alongside the "Collecting History" exhibition (lead curating Artist Lucy Harvey), from 28 April 2012 to 30 June 2012.
